I have a great love for the Japanese art of Shibari. The intricate knots and lines of rope form beautiful and intricate patterns across a submissive’s skin and create bondage scenarios that are far more elaborate than that achieved by mere cuffs and chains.
The Japanese word Shibari simply means ‘to tie’ but around that basic concept – the use of rope to restrain someone – has arisen a complex art shrouded in ritual and eroticism. As an artform it takes great skill and a lot of practise to become an expert, a fact which makes those who are practitioners something extra special in the BDSM world.
Imagine a submissive swathed in rope. The lines of the rope are specifically placed to create a contrast with the way their body curves. Coloured rope knotted in patterns over their skin, another contrast. Skin squeezed in areas to emphasise the breasts, nipples, genitals or backside. The knots placed in such a way as to apply pressure to specific points, creating an effect similar to massage and some believe this even allows the channelling of energy. Certainly those who experience Shibari undergo psychological as well as physical effects – the sub can become ‘rope drunk’, a variant of Subspace. Shibari is therefore not just a passive art; it is an interactive performance piece. The submissive, sometimes referred to as ‘the Canvas’, is under my complete control. I can arrange the ropes and the knots in a multitude of ways in order to create infinite possibilities and use this to exert my will on the body and mind of my canvas. Once I have them exactly in the position I want them, I can do whatever I wish.
I am always looking to practise my Shibari. If you want to be my canvas, book a session by emailing domme.sakura@gmail.com and make sure you ask for Shibari.
